Lube, Oil, Filter Procedure and Checklist

The following list details all of the procedures Performance Concepts Iowa checks off for each lube/oil/filter service we provide.

  • Fill out all information on work order.
  • Set car on lift.
  • Check condition of wiper blades — replace if needed.
  • Test all lights for correct operation and replace as needed — test again.
  • Inspect condition of belts and hoses.
  • Remove air filter — replace if needed. Check cabin filter if vehicle is equipped with one.
  • Raise car about half way and check for play in all 4 wheels.
  • Remove wheels.
  • Check condition of brakes.
  • Raise car and drain oil from engine.
  • Remove oil filter and allow to drain.
  • Inspect underside of vehicle for leaks, loose brackets, exhaust leaks, and note any problems.
  • Install oil pan drain plug and new oil filter. Check drain plug gasket and replace if needed. Check for oil filter gasket on old filter.
  • Clean any excess oil off the vehicle.
  • Lubricate chassis if grease fittings are present. Lubricate door hinges.
  • Lower vehicle about halfway.
  • Rotate tires and set pressures. (Cross drive wheels and move non drive wheels straight to drive. Check for directional tires and different size tires.)
  • Install wheels so they are snug or hand tight.
  • Lower vehicle enough so wheels will not move and torque wheels to manufacturer’s recommendation.
  • Fill engine to correct level with recommended oil.
  • Start vehicle and run for 30 seconds. Turn engine off. Check engine oil level, and if necessary, correct level.
  • Check for leaks around oil filter and drain plug.
  • Check the following fluids and add as needed:
    • Coolant
    • Brake fluid
    • Transmission fluid — following manufactures recommended procedures
    • Windshield washer fluid
    • Power steering fluid
  • Check battery and battery terminals for connection tightness and corrosion.
  • Make sure that handprints are wiped clean and interior has been checked for any handprints, dirt, etc. Wipe down as needed.
  • Place reminder date sticker in upper left hand corner of windshield.
  • Remove vehicle from lift and bring work order form to front desk. Make sure all part, filters, belts, hoses, and bulbs are listed on the form.
  • Prepare estimate for all recommended repairs.
